Stříbro

Charles IV visited this charming town dozens of times.

Very few towns could claim they were more intimate with Charles IV than Stříbro – apparently he visited it an incredible fifty two times! It was because the route from Prague to Paris which Charles would negotiate on horseback in 15 days used to lead through this town. Today you can travel in his footsteps along the Pan European cycle route that follows the original path. Under the Luxembourgs the town acquired fortifications. Nowadays their remains can be seen in the local park. In addition, the town was very devout – several monasteries could be found within its boundaries. Standing on the site of a church established under the Luxembourgs, the Church of All Saints from the 16th century has remained the dominating feature for years. Well-worthy of your attention is the originally Gothic Church of St. Peter, which received a Renaissance makeover. It was a place where battles were fought not only in the spiritual sense but also in reality – one of the windows was provably used as a firing embrasure.
